Brian's Life: A Brief History
Brian Philip Adams, 35, of Greencastle, PA, passed away, Saturday, January 24, 2015.
Born Wednesday, July 18, 1979 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of Philip Kenneth Adams and Beth (Kunkleman) Adams of Hagerstown, MD.
Brian attended Paramount Elementary School, Northern Middle School and graduated from Mercersburg Academy in 1997. Brian continued his education at Haverford College in Haverford, PA, where he received a BS in Psychology, after graduating he furthered his education at Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, KY, where he graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in 2005.
Brian was ordained in the Disciples of Christ Church on June 11, 2005 at his home church, First Christian Church in Hagerstown, MD. He has worked with numerous churches including First Christian Church in Madison , IN, Monterey Christian Church in Monterey, KY, Christian Temple in Catonsville, MD , Lansdowne Christian Church, Lansdowne, MD, Mt. Rainier Christian Church in Mt. Rainier, MD, and most recently serving at Grace United Church of Christ in Greencastle, PA. He was Minister for Economic Justice for the Disciples Center for Public Witness and was Minister of Justice Education for Disciples Justice Action Network.
Brian was passionate about many things, including social justice and the poor. On the lighter side Brian was an avid Baltimore Ravens fan, and enjoyed music, board games, playing the kazoo and serving as a camp counselor at church camp. Brian's true joy was spending time with his family, especially his wife Emily and was so looking forward to being a dad.
All contributions made to the Center's Brian P. Adams Justice Education Fund will be used to provide scholarships for young adults to participate in justice-oriented events and gatherings. In this way, the Center hopes to honor and continue both Brian's work with young adults and his strong passion for justice.
